David L. Streeter, one of the founders of ICPI, passed on September 9, 2018. With a law and engineering background, David played a key role in transitioning the Concrete Paver Institute to the Interlocking Concrete Pavement Institute in 1993. He also served as the second Chair of the Institute in 1994 and 1995. He managed Barbour Pavers based in Kansas City, Missouri. Barbour Pavers was purchased in 1994 by the Pavestone Company and he remained as General Manager of a paver manufacturing plant in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. After leaving the industry to start small business consulting in the late 1990s, he received ICPI honorary membership in 2002. David is best remembered for his quiet confidence, reason and wisdom. Besides his organizational skills and ability to accurately judge outcomes, he was best known for his humor. Many times at ICPI committee and board meetings, a controversial topic would arise and discussion would increase tension in the room. He would find the right moment and make a humorous comment resulting in laughter with the unspoken message of let’s not take things so seriously. He helped guide ICPI in its early days, always with wisdom and dashes of humor. He will be missed greatly.
